Limitations
Their are several limitations/bugs in the GetHelp! arexx script
and the concept as a whole:
-
You must have a real '.info' icon file for '.help' files
(not just a default icon) if you wish to open '.help' files
directly from Workbench with a double-click
-
While GetHelp.rexx should handle Voyager, the GetHelp
processes are thoroughly untested with Voyager
-
It may be possible for users with low ram availability to
run into problems. I may add a check to avoid this in the
future, but for now if you think you're eating up to much
ram, quit and restart your browser
-
Browser file open requesters generally just look for .html
or .html files, rendering your lovely .help files invisible
-
Browser hotlist functions won't work in most cases
-
Error handling could be better
-
Now that I use OpenURL I can't see an easy way to tell when
to delete the cached files. GetHelp waits until all
potential users of GetHelp files have quit(!)
-
Browsers are large, capable programs - way to capable for
GetHelp! purposes... I would love this to work with offline
browsers like moreHTML, but such programs will have to get
MIME support and an arexx interface.
